Believing that all students can learn and should be prepared to be globally competitive and successful for their futures, Transylvania County Schools envisioned a plan to deliver total 1:1 immersion for students beginning in 2010. The plan involved integrating technology into all aspects of teaching, guided by the ISTE Standards for Educators. The goal was to create flexible learning environments and equip both students and teachers with the necessary tools.
Since 2010, the schools have achieved several milestones, including placing technical and instructional support personnel in schools, having onsite Ed Tech Coaches, and promoting collaboration among educators. The focus has been on efficient technology use, professional development, and communication with parents through various platforms.
Looking ahead, the Digital Learning Initiative prioritizes equal access to technology, 21st-century skills, and strategic leadership. The plan involves leveraging social media for communication, implementing 21st-century tools, and offering professional development to ensure teachers are adept in this new environment. The initiative underscores the importance of equitable access and aims to achieve it through specific priorities, such as shared services, universal access to devices, and participation in statewide digital resources. The ultimate goal is to prepare students for the future by mastering digital competencies and standards.
