Dear Students and Caregivers:
Welcome back to school! I hope you all had a great summer.
I am so happy to be at BrevardElementary this year. Some of you may remember me being here a few years ago. Iam really looking forward to being your school counselor again!
I look forward to working withstudents in classroom guidance lessons, small groups, and individually asneeded.
I visit each class once amonth to teach lessons on character traits, career awareness, academic and socialskills. My hope is that students carry this knowledge outside of the classroom,so please encourage your child to talk about guidance activities at home.
Smallgroups are great for students to talk about struggles together. They are formedfrom referrals from teachers and parents. Group topics include study skills, friendship and social skills, stress management, attention and focus, behaviorstruggles, and lunch bunch. I ask for parent permission before starting a childin a group.
My door is always open for studentsto talk one-on-one in a confidential and supportive environment about theiracademic, personal, or social concerns. Students can see me by teacher/staff/administrator request, self-referral, parent request, or referral from afriend. Many times personal and school problems distract a child’s learning, and I believe individual time is a beneficial thing for students. However, timeis limited and sometimes needs are best met by counseling from an outsideagency. If a child needs outside counseling, I will be happy to talk to youabout referrals to private counselors in the community.
The guidance program is anessential part of the school experience. I enjoy this time spent with students! If you have any questions about a lesson or an activity, please feel free tocall. All parents are welcome in the counselor’s office. If you’d like anappointment, please call the office at 884-2001. Thank you for your support! Iknow we will have a wonderful year.
Sincerely,
Ami J Fish
