Parents and community volunteers are an integral part of the activities and learning in Transylvania County Schools. They serve as tutors and mentors to students and as assistants in the many activities schools participate in. Some volunteers offer special services based on their unique skills and training, others come to the schools on a recurring schedule to work one on one or with a small group of students or to assist with support functions in the media centers, offices, or classrooms.
Volunteers who tutor students report the enormous satisfaction they receive as they watch a child improve his reading or math skills and develop the self-confidence that accompanies success.
All parents and community members who wish to volunteer in a Transylvania County School are asked to filled out a Volunteer Application and return it to a volunteer coordinator at their school of interest.
Each volunteer application goes through a reviewable process where references and background information is checked. This process is to help insure the safety of all our students and staff. This process may take up to two weeks, and each applicant will receive an approval or disapproval letter in the mail. Teachers and school staff will be notified of all approved volunteers, and the school volunteer coordinator or a teacher will contact the volunteer about service.
