Sixth graders at Brevard Middle School have been learning a lot more than usual this year. Both sixth-grade teams have emphasized service to others in addition to the regular communication skills, math, science, and social studies.

The Bingle/Case/Kleppe/Shotwell team joined forces to encourage students to become involved with several service projects during December. The students adopted three families through Sharing House, made cookies and delivered them to children in the hospital for Christmas, and worked six different evenings at the Bread of Life in December and January. The Collins/Hammond/Khare/Matson/Pagano team helped each of their students complete six hours of volunteer work with a non-profit, neighbor, or person in need.

A celebration was held on Monday night, March 14, to show off the tri-fold boards each student made to showcase the work he or she did. About two hundred parents, relatives, and neighbors showed up to help them celebrate.

They will do another service project in May for Teacher Appreciation Week.
